Explanation

The Year of Sorrow (Aam-ul-Huzn) is called so because in 619 AD, the 10th year of Prophethood, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) suffered two devastating losses: the death of his beloved wife Hazrat Khadija (R.A) and his uncle Abu Talib, who had been his protector and supporter. Both passed away within a short span of each other, leaving the Prophet (PBUH) without his strongest personal and tribal support systems, which intensified the persecution from the Quraysh.

Good to know

The Year of Sorrow occurred in the 10th year of Prophethood, approximately three years before the Hijrah to Madina. Hazrat Khadija (R.A) was the first wife of the Prophet (PBUH) and the first person to accept Islam, while Abu Talib, though he never embraced Islam, provided crucial tribal protection as the chief of Banu Hashim. Following these losses, the Prophet (PBUH) traveled to Taif seeking support but was rejected and pelted with stones.
