Explanation

Fiqh is the science of Islamic law that discusses practical Shariah rulings and derives them from detailed evidence. The knowledge of rulings (Ilm al-Ahkam) is essentially another name for Fiqh, which covers rulings related to worship, transactions, social affairs, and other aspects of life. Hadith and Tafsir are sources of rulings, but the direct derivation and discussion of rulings from them is the subject of Fiqh.

Good to know

Linguistically, Fiqh means "deep understanding" or "comprehension," while terminologically it is the body of practical Shariah rulings derived from detailed evidence. Imam Abu Hanifah (RA) defined Fiqh as "knowledge of what is for and against a person" (i.e., one's rights and duties). The basic divisions of Fiqh include worship, transactions, social affairs, crimes, and governance.
