Explanation

Normative Ethics is the branch of ethics concerned with the criteria of what is morally right and wrong, focusing on how one ought to act. It establishes norms and standards to guide ethical action, unlike Meta Ethics which examines the nature of moral language, Applied Ethics which addresses specific practical issues, or Descriptive Ethics which merely describes moral beliefs without prescribing action.

Good to know

Ethics is broadly divided into three main branches: Meta Ethics (the study of the origin and meaning of ethical concepts), Normative Ethics (the study of ethical action and moral standards), and Applied Ethics (the application of ethical principles to real-world dilemmas). In Islamic context, Normative Ethics aligns with the study of how Muslims ought to behave based on Quranic injunctions and the Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH).
