Explanation

Hazrat Ali (R.A), the fourth Caliph of Islam, was martyred on the 21st of Ramadan, 40 AH, when a Kharijite named Abdur Rahman ibn Muljam attacked him with a poisoned sword while he was leading the Fajr prayer in the Great Mosque of Kufa. Kufa served as the capital of the Islamic Caliphate during Hazrat Ali's (R.A) reign, which is why he resided and was ultimately martyred there.
