Quick fact: Hazrat Umar R.A embraced Islam after being influenced by Surah Taha of the Holy Quran.

Explanation

Hazrat Umar R.A was initially a fierce opponent of Islam. One day, he set out to kill the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) but learned that his own sister Fatima bint Khattab and her husband had accepted Islam. Upon reaching their house, he heard them reciting Surah Taha. After reading the verses himself, his heart softened and he went straight to the Prophet (PBUH) to declare his shahada. This marked a turning point as his conversion greatly strengthened the Muslim community.

Good to know

Hazrat Umar R.A embraced Islam in the 6th year of Prophethood (around 616 CE), at the age of approximately 33. He was the 40th person to accept Islam according to some narrations. His conversion was a direct result of hearing the verses of Surah Taha (the 20th chapter of the Quran) being recited at his sister's house. After his acceptance, Muslims were able to pray openly at the Kaaba for the first time, and he later became the second Caliph of Islam.
