Explanation

The Holy Quran was revealed over a period of approximately 23 years, with Surahs classified as Makki (revealed before Hijrah) or Madani (revealed after Hijrah). Out of the total 114 Surahs, 28 are Madani and 86 are Makki. The Madani Surahs generally deal with laws, social regulations, and the establishment of the Islamic state, while Makki Surahs focus primarily on faith, Tawheed, and the Hereafter.

Good to know

The classification of Surahs into Makki and Madani is based on the place and time of revelation relative to the Prophet's (PBUH) migration (Hijrah) from Makkah to Madina. Madani Surahs were revealed over a span of about 10 years in Madina and include some of the longest Surahs such as Al-Baqarah, Al-Imran, and Al-Nisa. This classification helps in understanding the context and gradual development of Islamic legislation.
