Masjid al-Zirar was a mosque built by hypocrites in Madina with the intention of causing harm, disbelief, and division among the Muslims. It was constructed near the Quba Mosque under the pretext of being a place of worship, but its real purpose was to serve as a base for conspiring against the Prophet (PBUH). Allah revealed verses 107-110 of Surah Al-Tawbah exposing their plot, and the Prophet (PBUH) was commanded to never stand in it and to have it destroyed.
The incident of Masjid al-Zirar took place during the Madinan period, around the time of the Tabuk expedition. The hypocrites, led by Abu Amir al-Rahib, built this mosque and invited the Prophet (PBUH) to pray in it to gain legitimacy. Upon returning from Tabuk, the Prophet (PBUH) received divine revelation about their true intentions and sent companions to burn and demolish the structure. The site was later used as a garbage dump.
