Explanation

Hazrat Ismael (AS), the eldest son of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) and Hazrat Hajira (AS), is called Abu-ul-Arab because the Arab race traces its lineage back to him. He was left in the barren valley of Makkah as an infant along with his mother, and the spring of Zamzam emerged there. He later helped his father build the Kaaba, and the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is a direct descendant of Hazrat Ismael (AS) through the Adnanite line.

Good to know

The title "Abu-ul-Arab" reflects the belief that the Adnani (Northern) Arabs are direct descendants of Hazrat Ismael (AS). He married into the Jurhum tribe and learned Arabic from them, thus becoming the linguistic and genealogical father of the Arab people. His story is mentioned in the Quran in connection with the sacrifice and the building of the Kaaba alongside Hazrat Ibrahim (AS).
