Explanation

Imam Malik ibn Anas (711–795 CE) was the founder of the Maliki school of jurisprudence and one of the greatest scholars of Hadith. His work 'Al Muwatta' is considered the first comprehensive compilation of Hadith and Islamic law, arranged according to fiqh topics. It holds a unique position as it combines both Prophetic traditions and the practices of the people of Madina, earning it high praise from scholars including Imam Shafi'i, who called it the most authentic book after the Quran.

Good to know

Al Muwatta, meaning 'The Well-Trodden Path,' was compiled during the lifetime of Caliph Abu Ja'far al-Mansur and contains approximately 1,720 hadiths. Imam Malik spent over 40 years compiling this work, which is highly regarded in Sunni Islam and is often listed among the most authentic Hadith collections. The book is also notable for containing the highest chain of narration (silsilat al-dhahab) where Imam Malik narrates from Nafi', who narrates from Abdullah ibn Umar (R.A).
