Explanation

Nisab is the minimum threshold of wealth a Muslim must possess before Zakat becomes obligatory. For gold, the Nisab is 7.5 tolas (or 87.48 grams/3 ounces). For silver, it is 52.5 tolas (or 612.36 grams). Zakat is payable at the rate of 2.5% on wealth held for one full lunar year above the Nisab threshold.

Good to know

The concept of Nisab ensures that Zakat is only obligatory on those who possess a minimum level of wealth, making it a fair obligation. The measurement in tolas is commonly used in the Indian subcontinent, where one tola equals approximately 11.66 grams. Both gold and silver have their own distinct Nisab values, and a person must pay Zakat if their wealth in either exceeds the respective threshold.
