Explanation

This event is mentioned in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:31), where Allah taught Adam (A.S.) the names of everything and then presented them to the angels. When the angels expressed their inability to name them, Adam (A.S.) did so by the knowledge granted by Allah, demonstrating his superior status as Allah's vicegerent (Khalifa) on earth. This also highlights the unique gift of knowledge bestowed upon humankind.

Good to know

After creating Adam (A.S.), Allah commanded the angels to prostrate before him. All obeyed except Iblees (Satan), who refused out of arrogance. This incident marks the beginning of the enmity between Satan and mankind. The teaching of names signifies the intellectual capacity and knowledge given to humans, which even the angels did not possess.
