Quick fact: Al-Natihah refers to an animal that dies due to being gored.

Explanation

Al-Natihah is one of the prohibited items mentioned in Surah Al-Ma'idah (verse 3) of the Holy Quran. It refers to an animal that has been killed by another animal's horn. In Islam, eating the meat of such an animal is forbidden because it was not slaughtered according to Shariah and is considered 'Maitah' (carrion).

Good to know

In Surah Al-Ma'idah, verse 3, four types of animals are mentioned as forbidden: Al-Maitah (carrion), Ad-Dam (flowing blood), Lahm al-Khinzir (swine flesh), and that over which the name of other than Allah has been invoked. The same verse further clarifies that Al-Munkhaniqah (strangled), Al-Mawqudhah (beaten to death), Al-Mutaraddiyah (fallen from a height), An-Natihah (gored to death), and Ma akala as-sabu' (eaten by a predator) are also forbidden.
