Quick fact: The two Surahs referred to as Mauzatain are Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas.

Explanation

The term "Mauzatain" (Al-Mu'awwidhatayn) comes from the Arabic root word "A'udhu" meaning "I seek refuge," and refers to the two Surahs of protection — Surah Al-Falaq (Chapter 113) and Surah An-Nas (Chapter 114). These are the last two Surahs of the Quran and are collectively called Al-Mu'awwidhatayn because both begin with the phrase "Qul A'udhu bi Rabb..." (Say: I seek refuge with the Lord...). The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) frequently recited these two Surahs for protection against evil, harm, and whisperings of Satan.

Good to know

Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas are both Makkan Surahs and together form the last two chapters of the Holy Quran. Along with Surah Al-Ikhlas, they are sometimes collectively referred to as "Qul" Surahs because each begins with the command "Qul" (Say). The Prophet (PBUH) recommended reciting these three Surahs three times each in the morning and evening for divine protection, and they hold special significance in daily supplications and ruqyah (spiritual healing).
