Quick fact: Hadees Qudsi is the Prophet's words meaning Allah, where the meaning is from Allah and the wording is from the Prophet (PBUH).

Explanation

Hadees Qudsi (also known as Hadith Qudsi or Sacred Hadith) is a special category of hadith in which the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) conveys a message whose meaning is directly from Allah, but the actual wording and expression are the Prophet's own. This distinguishes it from the Quran, where both the meaning and the words are directly from Allah. It also differs from regular Hadith Nabawi, where both the meaning and wording originate from the Prophet (PBUH) himself.

Good to know

The term "Qudsi" comes from the Arabic root word "Quds," meaning sacred or holy. Scholars estimate that there are approximately 100 to 200 authentic Ahadith Qudsiyyah. These hadith often deal with themes of Allah's mercy, forgiveness, and the relationship between Allah and His servants. Unlike the Quran, Hadees Qudsi is not recited in Salah, and its transmission does not require the same strict conditions of tawatur (mass transmission) required for the Quran.
