Explanation

The Conquest of Makkah took place in 8 AH during the month of Ramadan. It was largely a bloodless conquest because the Prophet ﷺ announced a general amnesty. Only a small group that attacked the army led by Khalid bin Waleed (RA) was dealt with, resulting in 28 disbelievers killed while only 2 Muslims were martyred.

Good to know

The Conquest of Makkah occurred when the Quraysh of Makkah violated the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah by attacking Banu Khuza'ah (allies of the Muslims). The Prophet ﷺ advanced towards Makkah with an army of 10,000 Companions. Upon entering the city, he ﷺ asked for the key to the Kaaba, broke the idols, and announced that there would be no accountability that day, saying, 'Go, you are all free.'
