Quick fact: The last Ghazwa in which the Holy Prophet (PBUH) personally participated was Ghazwa Tabuk.

Explanation

Ghazwa Tabuk took place in 9 AH (630 CE) and was the final military expedition in which the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) personally took part. It was a preemptive expedition against the Byzantine Empire, and although no actual battle occurred, it demonstrated the strength and preparedness of the Muslim state. After this Ghazwa, the Prophet (PBUH) did not personally lead any further military campaigns, making it historically significant as his last Ghazwa.

Good to know

Ghazwa Tabuk is also known as "Jaysh al-Usrah" (the Army of Hardship) because it took place during extreme summer heat and scarcity of resources. The expedition involved a journey of over 700 kilometers from Madina to Tabuk (in present-day Saudi Arabia). It was during preparations for this Ghazwa that many companions, especially Abu Bakr (R.A.) and Umar (R.A.), contributed generously, and the hypocrites who stayed behind were exposed.
