Quick fact: The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ followed the advice of his wife Hazrat Umm-e-Salma (R.A) during the Treaty of Hudaibia when the Companions hesitated to obey his command to shave their heads and sacrifice animals.

Explanation

At the Treaty of Hudaibia, when the terms appeared unfavorable to the Muslims and the Companions were reluctant to follow the Prophet's instruction to sacrifice animals and shave their heads, the Prophet ﷺ was distressed. Hazrat Umm-e-Salma (R.A) wisely advised him to go out, not speak to anyone, and perform the rites himself first. When the Companions saw the Prophet ﷺ doing this, they immediately followed suit. This incident highlights the wisdom and counsel of the Mothers of the Believers and the importance of leading by example.

Good to know

Hazrat Umm-e-Salma (R.A), whose name was Hind bint Abi Umayya, was one of the most learned wives of the Prophet ﷺ. She was previously married to Hazrat Abu Salma (R.A) and had migrated to Abyssinia and later to Madina. Known for her wisdom and sound judgment, she narrated numerous hadith and was highly respected for her knowledge. She was the last of the Prophet's wives to pass away, living until the caliphate of Yazid ibn Muawiya.
