Quick fact: Wahshi, the killer of Hazrat Hamza (R.A), was the slave of Jubair bin Mut'im.

Explanation

Wahshi ibn Harb was an Abyssinian slave owned by Jubair bin Mut'im, a Quraysh noble. Jubair promised Wahshi his freedom if he killed Hazrat Hamza (R.A) during the Battle of Uhud, as revenge for Hamza having killed Jubair's uncle Tu'aimah bin Adi at Badr. Wahshi succeeded in martyring Hamza (R.A) with a javelin throw. Later, after the conquest of Makkah, Wahshi accepted Islam and was forgiven by the Prophet (PBUH), and he later killed Musaylimah al-Kadhdhab with the same spear during the caliphate of Abu Bakr (R.A).

Good to know

Hazrat Hamza ibn Abdul Muttalib (R.A), the beloved uncle of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), was martyred in the Battle of Uhud (3 AH). He was known as "Asadullah" (Lion of Allah) and "Sayyid-ush-Shuhada" (Chief of the Martyrs). Wahshi was specifically instructed by Jubair bin Mut'im to target Hamza, and Hind bint Utbah also encouraged Wahshi as she sought revenge for her father's death at Badr. After embracing Islam, Wahshi expressed deep remorse for his act, and the Prophet (PBUH) accepted his repentance.
