Explanation

Masjid Quba was the first mosque built in Islam, constructed by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions upon his arrival in Madina during the Hijrah. The Quran refers to it in Surah At-Tawbah (9:108) as the mosque founded on piety (Taqwa) from the very first day. The Prophet (PBUH) himself participated in its construction and frequently visited it, emphasizing its great virtue by saying that offering two rak'ahs of prayer in Masjid Quba is equivalent to performing an Umrah.

Good to know

Masjid Quba is located approximately 3.5 kilometers south of Masjid Nabawi in Madina. It holds the distinction of being the first mosque ever built in Islamic history, established in the year 1 AH (622 CE). The verse in Surah At-Tawbah (9:108) was revealed when some hypocrites built Masjid Dirar (a mosque of harm and disbelief) and invited the Prophet (PBUH) to pray there, but Allah forbade him and instead praised Masjid Quba and its pious founders.
