Explanation

Masjid-e-Quba holds the distinction of being the very first mosque in Islamic history. It was established by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) himself during his migration (Hijrah) from Makkah to Madinah. The Prophet (PBUH) stayed at Quba for a few days and personally laid the foundation stones of this mosque. The Quran refers to it in Surah At-Tawbah (9:108) as a mosque founded on piety from the very first day.

Good to know

Masjid-e-Quba is located about 3 kilometers south of Madinah. The Prophet (PBUH) arrived at Quba on 8th Rabi-ul-Awwal during the Hijrah and stayed there for approximately 4 days before proceeding to Madinah. The mosque has been renovated and expanded several times throughout Islamic history, with the most recent major expansion undertaken by the Saudi government. It is considered highly virtuous to pray in this mosque, with a hadith stating that praying two rak'ahs in Masjid-e-Quba carries the reward of an Umrah.
