Quick fact: The conqueror of Egypt in Islamic history is Amr bin Al-Aas (R.A).

Explanation

Amr bin Al-Aas (R.A) was a prominent companion of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and a skilled military commander. During the caliphate of Umar (R.A), he led the Muslim army into Egypt and successfully conquered it from the Byzantine Empire in 641 CE (20 AH). He also founded the city of Fustat, which became the first Muslim capital of Egypt. His conquest of Egypt was a major expansion of the Islamic state during the era of Khilafat-e-Rashida.

Good to know

Amr bin Al-Aas (R.A) accepted Islam in 8 AH, shortly before the conquest of Makkah. He was appointed as the governor of Oman by the Prophet (PBUH) and later played a key role in the conquest of Palestine as well. During the caliphate of Umar (R.A), he convinced the Caliph to allow him to march into Egypt with a relatively small force of around 4,000 men. The conquest was completed with the fall of Alexandria, and Amr bin Al-Aas served as the governor of Egypt under both Umar (R.A) and Usman (R.A).
