Explanation

Salat-e-Kasoof is the special prayer performed by Muslims at the time of a solar eclipse. It is a Sunnah Mu'akkadah (emphasized Sunnah) consisting of two rak'ahs with prolonged recitation, bowing, and prostration. The prayer is offered in congregation, and it is recommended to engage in supplication, remembrance of Allah, and charity during the eclipse. The corresponding prayer for a lunar eclipse is called Salat-e-Khusoof.

Good to know

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) offered Salat-e-Kasoof when a solar eclipse occurred on the day his son Ibrahim passed away. Some people thought the eclipse was due to Ibrahim's death, but the Prophet (PBUH) clarified that the sun and moon are signs of Allah and do not eclipse for anyone's death or birth. Both Salat-e-Kasoof (solar) and Salat-e-Khusoof (lunar) are established Sunnah prayers performed during eclipses.
