Explanation

Tawaf Al-Qudum, also known as the "Tawaf of Arrival," is performed by pilgrims upon entering Makkah for Hajj. It is classified as a Sunnat (recommended act) according to the majority of Islamic jurists, particularly in the Hanafi school of thought. This means it is not obligatory but highly recommended, and omitting it does not invalidate the Hajj nor require a penalty, unlike the Tawaf Al-Ifadah which is a Fard (obligatory) pillar of Hajj.

Good to know

There are several types of Tawaf performed during Hajj and Umrah, each with different rulings. Tawaf Al-Qudum (Arrival Tawaf) is Sunnat for those performing Hajj Al-Ifrad or Hajj Al-Qiran. Tawaf Al-Ifadah (also called Tawaf Al-Ziyarah) is Fard and a fundamental pillar of Hajj. Tawaf Al-Wida (Farewell Tawaf) is Wajib according to most scholars. Understanding these distinctions is important for correctly answering questions about Hajj rituals.
