Quick fact: The scribes of revelation (Kātibīn-e-Waḥī) included all of these prominent companions — Hazrat Abu Bakr (R.A), Hazrat Umar (R.A), Hazrat Usman (R.A), Hazrat Ali (R.A), Hazrat Zaid bin Thabit (R.A), Hazrat Ubayy bin Ka'b (R.A), and several others.

Explanation

The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) appointed multiple companions as scribes of revelation (Kātibīn-e-Waḥī) to record the Quranic verses as they were revealed. Estimates suggest there were around 40 to 42 scribes in total. Among the most prominent were the four Rightly Guided Caliphs — Hazrat Abu Bakr, Hazrat Umar, Hazrat Usman, and Hazrat Ali (R.A) — as well as Hazrat Zaid bin Thabit (R.A), who later played the central role in the official compilation of the Quran during the caliphate of Hazrat Abu Bakr (R.A), and Hazrat Ubayy bin Ka'b (R.A), who was known for his expertise in Quranic recitation.

Good to know

The Kātibīn-e-Waḥī held a position of immense trust and responsibility, as they were entrusted with recording the divine words exactly as revealed. Hazrat Zaid bin Thabit (R.A) is particularly noted for being the chief scribe and was present during the final review of the Quran with Jibraeel (A.S) in the last Ramadan. Other notable scribes included Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas'ud (R.A.), Hazrat Khalid bin Waleed (R.A.), and Hazrat Muawiya bin Abi Sufyan (R.A.).
