Explanation

The Farewell Sermon (Khutbah al-Wada) was delivered by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on the 9th of Dhul Hijjah, 10 AH, at the plain of Arafat. This sermon is significant because it summarizes the core teachings of Islam, including the rights of women, equality of all humans regardless of race, and the prohibition of usury (riba). It serves as a comprehensive charter of human rights and moral guidance for Muslims.

Good to know

The Farewell Sermon was delivered during the Prophet's first and only Hajj, which took place in the 10th year after Hijrah. Standing at Jabal al-Rahmah (Mount of Mercy) in the plain of Arafat, the Prophet addressed approximately 124,000 companions. The sermon marked the completion of the religion, and shortly after, the verse "This day I have perfected for you your religion" (Surah Al-Ma'idah 5:3) was revealed.
